Reconstructing Richmond
If Richmond Can Change, so Can America?

Richmond was once the capital of the Confederacy, in a land previously inhabited by Indigenous tribes, and later the center of the domestic slave trade.

Today, communities across the city are rebuilding through art, agriculture, mutual aid, culture, and new forms of civic leadership.

Reconstructing Richmond is a documentary about a city confronting its past while imagining a different future — and the people doing the work of repair in real time.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, this film asks a larger question: What does reconstruction look like in our time?
